How to Steer Your Mind Power Perception to Your Benefit

April 28, 2009 · Filed Under Personal Development · Comment

by Joy Obihara
Did you know that the Values and Beliefs we have in life adds up to shape who we are and how we perceive things in life?

Well, experiences we have throughout our lives are filtered by us at different stages and stored in our memory according to what we believe as realities of those experiences.

Infact, our Mind Filters are very important in holding just what we want, and discarding the others. This is good, because otherwise we’d be storing too much information and in reality, this cannot be healthy in any way.

Now, how does all this relate to Mind Perception?

Well, to simplify things here, I’ll illustrate this with a couple of real life examples that show different Mind Perception, and the corresponding results that were directly related to the perception of the people involved from the very start.

Ok, in this case, two fitness training instructors were once asked to take part in an assessment to evaluate a group of people and to report back on the results afterwards. The results would include information such as recorded weight loss by members of the group over a period of time, levels of motivation, levels of confidence, eagerness to participate, etc etc.

The first trainer was briefed from the very start by the employer and told that these people were really difficult to get along with, and that as a group, everything had been done to motivate and encourage them but that the results were very poor and discouraging.

So of course this Trainer went into this engagement with the perception that “well, I’ll try my best but don’t expect anything different”. So, as he perceived, that was the result he achieved. In other words, the group performed no better than what was originally anticipated.

Again, the next Trainer was briefed about the same group, and was told how fantastic this group of people were, and how they were the best at everything they tried, he was told that they came top and were just working their way to achieve the goals that were set for them.

Well, you can guess what happened in this instance because when the results came out in relation to their performance, they were fantastic and brilliant in everything that they were scheduled to do. Compare this to the previous case, the Trainer here was really fired up and motivated to work with this group towards achieving their success. From the very start, he personally perceived that this group were winners and so he wasn’t going to let them down.

As the saying goes, Henry Ford once said,” if you think you can or if you think you can’t either way you’re always right”. Indeed perception is one key factor that shapes the way we think and the way we act in relation to different circumstances in our lives. This includes any limiting beliefs, inhibitions, negative self-talk etc. Positive outlook on life leads to a motivated spirit, confidence in your abilities, happiness, resourcefulness and all this can shape the way you move to achieve results in your life.

Now then, here are key points to bear in mind that will allow you to breakthrough negative perception and limiting beliefs, allowing you to create the life you deserve.

1) Positive Perception and Outlook in life

Endeavour to be open-minded in your daily life, and before you discarded things, perhaps due to previous limiting beliefs, think them through carefully and consider how they affect you or your circumstances. Carefully meditate on issues before saying “I can’t, and use your mind power to direct your actions in accordance with your inner desires.

2) Practice Affirmations.

During the day at various intervals, repeat affirmations such as “I Can Do This, With My Will Power and Determination”.

3) Persistence is the Fruit of Success.

Be persistent in pursuing that which you genuinely believe and not limit yourself just for the sake of it, enquire from within and ensure that your Mind Power, that is your inner mind on a deeper level, is in harmony with your outward actions.

Most of problems in life stem from the fact that the mind is thinking one thing and the body is directed to act or do another. When you master inner harmony and your mind works in tune with your body, that’s when you truly grasp your Mind’s Unlimited Wonderful Potential to lifestyle freedom.

So, take it is a step at a time, and watch your companions. Surround yourself with people who motivate and lift you up, understanding that you are truly on your way to discovering and living your very own uniqueness. Success in your desires will come when you put your mind to it and genuinely action it with persistence and determination with your ‘WILL’.

Creative Thinking Activity - Aerobics For The Brain

April 28, 2009 · Filed Under Personal Development · Comment

by Michael A Jones
Creative thinking activity comes naturally to a brain that is alive and energized. As explained below, your five senses provide an amazing set of tools to get your brain out of a rut and into productive, creative thinking territory.

Aerobic exercises get life-sustaining oxygen into parts of the body often starved. Aerobics for your senses have the same effect, enlivening them, waking them up, which in turn leads to a higher level of creative thinking activity.

Our five senses of taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing bombard the brain every second with millions of pieces of information. To bystanders, the children may be making a terrible din, but the mother is hardly aware of it until a friend says: “How do you put up with it!” The lesson? We quickly get accustomed to our environment so it becomes the norm, which means we fail to take notice of detail and the seeds of creative ideas.

The Challenge

So here is our challenge - to get the senses to break out of the box so we start noticing things again.

Here is an “aerobic brain exercise” to get creative “oxygen” to those senses:

Select in your mind something familiar. To illustrate what we mean we will choose a simple common object, A BOOK. Think of a particular book you enjoy reading. Now close your eyes and wrap your 5 senses around this object in your imagination and really live the experience.

TOUCH

What does it feel like to pick it up? Is it heavy, light? The cover has what kind of texture? Glossy or grainy? Do the pages feel rough or glossy when you turn them over?

HEARING

What kind of sounds do you the pages make as you turn them? Is it a rustling sound due to fine paper, or a stiff sound caused by thick paper?

SMELL

Does the book have a distinctive smell? Do you detect a unique smell from the ink on the page as you scrutinize it with your nose?

TASTE

While not suggesting we take a bite, does your imagination suggest a certain taste? Our brains are amazing association factories. Often we associate a certain flavor with an object. What flavor is your book?

SIGHT

What catches your eye as you view the book on the table from the other side of the room? Is it the size? The color? The title? The artwork?

Once you have focused the senses on a specific object in this way, the once familiar object now takes on a life of its own and can evoke quite different emotions and reactions!

Just Try It

Skeptical? Just try it! It will only take between one and two minutes. The images imprinted on your brain can stay with you for a very long time. That is the power of concentration.

Where is all this leading us?

Creative thinking activity depends in part on the massive input that comes from the sensations our external organs transmit to the brain. Linking the most unlikely sometimes produces brilliant ideas! Applying these associations from your imagination to your task in hand can produce great results.

CONCLUSION: When you are next required to prepare for some creative thinking activity, just do this quick aerobic exercise for the brain using the five senses! You will never view familiar things the same way again and you might just give birth to a brilliant solution or idea.

Positive Personality - Three Most Basic Things That You Need To Be Successful

April 28, 2009 · Filed Under Personal Development · Comment

by Khadijah Ibrahim
In my opinion there are three basic things that everybody must do so that they would be successful whether it is online or offline business or even in their life. I believe that all successful people know and do these three basic things. I also could guarantee that if you ask any successful people, these three things would be the first things they mention.

What are the first three basic things that are important and you need to do?

Believe that you can succeed

With everything that you do whether in your online or offline business or even your life, the first thing you need to do is believe that you can succeed. Believe that you can achieve anything that you put your mind into. This is the first and important thing that you need to do before anything else.

You must be able to see yourself achieving your dream, hear the positive things that you would say when you achieve your dream and feel the feeling when you achieve your dream.

You might be asking why is your belief very important and be the first thing that you need to do?

It is important and the first thing that you need to do because without belief you would not feel the urgency to achieve your dreams. Without the belief that you could succeed you would never take any action to achieve your dreams.

Let me give you an example. If you are supposed to jump out of an aeroplane however you do not believe that your parachute will open and you would safely land on the ground, would you do it? I don’t think so.

The same goes with any venture that you are going to jump into. You need to have a belief before you do it. If you jump into any venture without any belief, I could assure you that when you meet with the first obstacle, the obstacle will definitely break you and you will give up.

So whatever you a going to do or choose, you need to believe that you would be able to succeed.

Take action

After a very long explanation on beliefs, I need to remind you on the second most important thing that you need to do.

Yes, that’s right; take action. If you believe with your whole heart that you could succeed but you are not taking any action to achieve it, how are you going to succeed? If you believe that you are going to be a millionaire however you are not taking any action, just waiting for somebody to hand you the money; will you be a millionaire? Unless of course if you have Uncle Ben who is a millionaire and you are going to inherit his money then may be you can just sit tight waiting for him to die. However with that kind of guarantee in your pocket, you must still take actions to ensure that he would not change his mind, mustn’t you?

If you want to succeed in an online business then start making plans on how to start building and do it. If you still do not know how to do it then start learning and ask people who already have the experience and knowledge.

If you want to be successful, start acting like successful people and do what they did to become successful.

So you see, just believing will not be enough you must take action.

Never give up

The third most important thing that you need to do is to never ever give up. You must realise that before success there will always be a lot of obstacles, roadblocks, frustrations and hard work.

I don’t think that there is anybody who is successful who never encountered these four things. If they didn’t, you better check them out to see whether they really are successful.

The truth is, obstacles, roadblocks, frustrations and hard work are good things. These are the things that make you stretch out and become a better person. Being successful is not just what you achieve but also who you become in the process of achieving success.

So there you are three basic but most important things that you must do to achieve success. With these three things everything else will come together and you will be on your way to achieve your dreams in no time.

Who Am I Kidding? How to Stop Self-Sabotage

April 28, 2009 · Filed Under Personal Development · Comment

by Valery Satterwhite
“Who am I Kidding?”

“Who am I to do this?”

“What am I thinking?”

“I’m not (fill in the blank) enough.”

These are questions creative people in the visual and performing arts ask themselves every day. They are the questions that stop an artist from starting a project. Stop an actor from going out for a major audition. Stop a musician from completing a score.

A creative person doesn’t like to be stopped so she Finds Excuses And Reasons (F.E.A.R.) to justify the stoppage and make herself feel better, even if only for a moment.

“The secret of success in life is to be ready when your opportunity comes.” - Benjamin Disraeli

Yes, when you are finding excuses and reasons to say no to the work, say no to the opportunity, say no to your desires, you are in fear. The fear could be rooted in many misguided beliefs. You could fear failure, not believing that failure is a stepping stone to success. You could fear judgment, not able to separate yourself from the work . You could fear rejection, not centered in the truth of who you are.

Surprisingly what most creative people fear is the fear of Success. Fear of success can be just as paralyzing as fear of failure. Success is scary because it involves change. It is a move beyond the current comfort zone, a move into a vulnerable unknown territory. With success comes more challenges and responsibilities - and that can be threatening.

Even if Success is achieved, many people succumb to their fear of success and self-sabotage. You see examples of this type of self-sabotage nearly daily in the tabloids. Celebrities, politicians, business tycoons caught in the act of doing something that publicly damages their business , reputation and career.

“Who am I Kidding?”

“Who am I to do this?”

“What am I thinking?”

“I’m not (fill in the blank) enough.”

And, if successful; “It’s only a matter of time before they find out that I’m not really enough.”

And that’s where the self-sabotaging behavior comes in.

People fear that they may not be able to live up to their achievements. They’re afraid of tasting success and then losing it. They’re afraid of the humiliation that can come with such a loss. So, they find excuses and reasons not to move forward on the path to success in the first place. If they manage to achieve success, they will create some drama - an event - that will prove to their inner critic that the belief is true, they are not enough.

The Inner Critic loves to be right. It loves to be safe in the current comfort zone. It works hard to prove it’s rightness and stay safe. If you are procrastinating or finding excuses and reasons then you are a victim to your own Inner Critic.

The good news is that once you’ve noticed your self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviors you can do something about them. You can make different choices. When you hear that Inner Critic voice reminding you that you are not enough you can just stop thank it for ’sharing’, and take a breath. With your next breath, ask yourself the following questions:

Not Enough? According to whom?

Is that true? How can I know this is absolutely true?

Are there any examples of when I have been enough? (Find examples. There are plenty of times in your life when you have been good enough. If you’re reading this article you’re reading skills are good enough!)

Who would I be, what would I do and what would I have if I was successful? Imagine that lifestyle vividly. In great detail. Feel it. Hold this vision of your life as a successful artist with you as you go about your life and your work.

And, most importantly, put one foot in front of the other and say yes to your work. Say yes to yourself as a creative being.

“Success supposes endeavor.” - Jane Austen

How to Resolve Instead of Just Solve Problems

April 28, 2009 · Filed Under Personal Development · Comment

by Valery Satterwhite
“I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I’ve bought a big bat. I’m all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!” - Dr. Seuss

In these hectic, often stressful days, many people measure themselves on their ability, or inability, to solve problems or “put out fires” in their daily life. A successful day is a day when problems are solved. However, the same kinds of problems keep coming up. Perhaps not every day but often enough to notice a pattern if one only stops for a minute to examine the series of problems that they keep solving over and over and over again.

Is it better to solve a problem or resolve a problem? There is a distinction.

The dictionary defines the word solve as to find the solution to a problem or question or understand the meaning of a problem or question. The word resolve means decide, bring to an end; settle conclusively. It’s an important distinction.

I was watching the television show Numb3ers one night and one character lamented to the other about how nice it would be if they could stop people from shooting each other. The other character responded that it would be even better if guns and bullets were no longer manufactured. Yes, there are a few holes in that argument but the point is well taken. Often we continue to put band-aids on symptoms, outcomes, rather than clear up the root cause of the problem.

Lousy job? Get a new job, problem solved. Or is it? Many people go from one lousy job to the next. The jobs may be truly lousy or the person isn’t pursuing work that excites or inspires his natural calling. Either way, that person is just creating the same, or similar, problem over and over again and applying the same solution each time. To resolve the problem, to stop the pattern of lousy jobs, he would have to get a good job that he enjoys.

We see the same problem patterns in the various relationships some people have. Whether it be with their spouse, family member, friend or romantic relationships, the same problems occur over and over again. Each problem is eventually solved only to have another same or similar type of problem recur later on. The band-aid came off of the root issue and the sore is still festering.

Solving a problem works to a point. It works until the problem shows up again in some form or fashion.

To resolve problems it is essential to mindfully examine the problematic experience to dig down deep to discover the root cause. For personal problems, the best place to start is within. What within me is creating this problem? A bad decision that was based in fear? Making erroneous assumptions? Allowing yourself to be a victim to other people’s “shoulds”? Taking the path of least resistance?

Remember, everyone is always doing the best they can. No one gets out of bed in the morning and wonders how they can create problems for themselves that day. As such, is it important to leave judgment out of the equation when examining what role you played in creating the problem. If it is a problem within a company, look within the company. What within the company is creating this problem? An outdated system? Inexperienced employees?

When you discover the root cause of the problem make the corrections. The root cause is then removed, the festering sore is healed, the pattern of similar problems is ended. For good.

Don’t just solve your problems; resolve your problems.
